Rocky J. Rose

Rocky was one of thirteen filmmakers selected Australia-wide to come together for an intensive that saw them form teams and generate new projects in just five days, culminating in a public pitch at the Sydney Film Festival.

The lab was designed and delivered by For Film’s Sake executive director Sophie Mathisen alongside UK producer and creator of the BFI’s Producer Programme and Visions du Reel’s Development Lab, Samm Haillay. The lab focused on design principles, in an aim to shift focus “from project to process”.

Participants received feedback from international guests of the festival, including producer/director of AGAINST THE TIDE, Sarvnik Kaur; Fabien Altenreid, producer of PIAFFE, and director of JORAM, Devashish Makhija.

Rocky was one of five emerging Script Editors selected in the inaugural Platform: Margins program held at the Sydney Film Festival in 2024.

The intensive was led by For Film's Sake executive director Sophie Mathisen, Head of Theatre at VCA Dr. Chris Mead, and Dom Mercer from Belvoir St Theatre Company. 

The participants were tasked with transforming successful plays into screenplays, culminating in a live table read performed by actors at the Belvoir St Theatre Company.

They also worked alongside special guests Yvonne Ibazebo (TOP BOY, RYE LANE), Marten Rabarts (former NZIFF director) and Robin Mukherjee (playwright and UK screenwriter of Cate Shortland’s award-winning feature Lore).
